This painting has nothing, at all, to do with the paintings I am working of for the grant I got from L.A.R.A.C. This is me taking a break from that work. All of the detail within Finch Paper mill was beginning to get to me. That's one reason. Another reason is that I'm having a show at the Lapham Gallery (group show) in June/July 2010 and they want me to show my efforts toward the industrial element of our society. I have only the 3 big paintings I am doing for the grant and some smaller paintings directed at that genre, if I include paintings of cars and trucks also. This painting makes me feel like I will have more variety in that show. This painting would bring the count to 12 or 13 paintings. The paintings I'm doing for the grant are so time consuming because of their complexity. An example of that is the fact that I have only done 4 paintings since The end of September 2010. I would normally have had, reasonably, 7 paintings in those 8 months. This painting, by comparison, took only 20 days from beginning to end. The only complicated part of this one is the power lines - what goes to where. I work from photos but they do not always show the information you need when you get to a point where the information is lost in the shadows. I also took massive liberties with the composition of this one - ignoring the photo - then getting into trouble with the information - my own fault. 3/4 inch black floating frame Size: 20 inches x 30.5 inches
